ENVIRONMENTAL REGULATIONS

Australia

The exploration activities and development operations conducted in Australia by the Group, either directly or in conjunction with its joint venture partners, are subject to relevant environmental legislation, principally Environmental Protection Acts and Regulations in Queensland and NSW. A number of other acts influence the manner in which the Group operates, in the areas of natural resource management and nature conservation. The Group's activities affected by legislation include drilling, seismic surveys and petroleum development activities. Within the states in which it operates, the Group either directly or in conjunction with its joint venture partners holds the relevant environmental licenses, permits and plans as applicable. The consolidated entity does not hold any other licenses regarding discharges to the environment.

Canada

In Québec, Canada the exploration activities and development operations conducted by the Group are governed by the Québec Mining Act, the Québec Environment Quality Act and the Federal Canadian Environmental Protection Act.

USA

The exploration activities and development operations within West Virginia USA are governed by the United States Environmental Protection Agency.

South Africa

In South Africa, the exploration activities and development operations conducted by the Group are governed by the Mineral and Petroleum Resources Development Act, 2002 and the Regulations For Mineral Development, Petroleum Exploration And Production administered by the Department of Environment.
